I´ve been trying to extend the lifetime of my old laptop. Its An asus n82 with an i7-740Qm and a gt335m.
I have swapped the hdd with an ssd and put in more ram. Would it be worth it to change the gpu with something like a gtx950m or 940m (probably the 940, the tdp is almost the same as the gt335)? or should i just save for a brand new one laptop.
Thanks in advance

I'm sorry, but as the gentleman before me said, this task is much harder than you'd anticipate.

Mobile GPU's are almost always leaded onto the motherboard (that's the correct phrase no?) so if you want to switch it to another mobile GPU then you might have to take out the board as well. And then there's the power supply running through your system, will it be...
You likely can't as they are usually soldered down. If it is somehow upgradeable, then comes the challenge of finding another laptop with the graphics you want and hope it is removable. Then hope it will fit in your laptop.

You can't just buy a mobile gpu and slap it in. That is why we use desktops, other than the more powerful platform, it is upgradeable and tend to last longer because of this.

And then there's the power supply running through your system, will it be able to sustain a new, better GPU under intense and heavy loads?

Let's not forget that actually acquiring the right mobile parts is a handful as well.

I could go on and on about costs and time it takes to replace a mobile GPU, but to be frank, you'd be better off either buying a new laptop with better gaming components or building/buying a desktop.

Sorry!

I know I cant really slap on gpu without research.
The gpu happens to be removable and that´s why i asked, otherwise I wouldn´t have bothered.
I have a tower as well but i spend a lot of time away from home and the laptop is my main machine in that regard.
CPu upgrade is a dead end and I cant really afford 800€ for decent laptop, so spending 100€ upping the gpu was my best idea for prolonging its life.
Thanks for the answer

You can try contacting Asus or Nvidia directly to see if they will sell you one directly if it is that important. Expect to pay a kings ransom though. Most likely outcome is you will be ignored since you are not an OEM, or told to buy something new.
