I have my eyes on Xeon Broadwell E5-2698 V4 beast chip
have X99 deluxe mainboard and use Kingston red color 32GB RAM (red colored)) because I cant remember the serials and all this stuff)

so what about compatibility ? of those 3 components

I contacted asus tech support half hour ago and guess what ? they can't say )) as always by the way ... they just don't give a S... their support team is real orks from lord of rings

Wow, I wish I had $3000 to drop on a processor.

Unfortunately though this is not going to work. The X99 boards are LGA2011v3, while the Xeon processor is LGA2011. They are different and not compatible. You need to find an equivalent server motherboard, to run this chip.

If you don't mind me asking.... why? It literally will do nothing for you that a i7-5960x wouldn't do, unless you want to make something insane like one of those Puget Systems game servers, to run multiple virtual machines. If you're not doing that you're lighting money on fire.

loool )) I didn't even check the socket because I was sure it is 2011-3 socket
what the hell ... its really 2011 socket
let me ask another question then .. they made new chips and step back in terms of socket ?
why ? xeon v3 chips are 2011-3
loool what is going on ..

answering you directly on question why ... because is has lot higher bench than 5960x even overclocked on vray ... many tasks in 3d prefer more cpu cores than less cores but more powerful , because if your machine has lots of cores for example maya can distribute evaluation Subtasks more precisely and efficiently , it affects a lot ... particle simulations also prefer more cores
I mean if you have 8 cores with 4.0 OC
I will overcome your chip with 16cores with 2.0 MHz
notice that values are same ...
the cost of the processor is lower then 3000 $ trust me )) (you put official price)
and one thing more ...

$3000 for a benchmark, or do you do work that needs it? Because games won't benefit (and may even be slower).

Anyway its not a step back, Intel has 3 versions of the 2011 socket due to guidelines on how they want the motherboard to operate with the CPU. They are basically "the same" but there is a lot of baked in feature support that is different.

I think I trust Intel itself over Wikipedia

http://ark.intel.com/m/products/91753/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2698-v4-50M-Cache-2_20-GHz

And to add... Thats all I was asking, if you're doing it for working on stuff like that then sure you need it.

And I don't know where you think you're getting it for less than $3k, I looked everywhere, so I would be interested to see where you can get it for less. It just came out, not like you're getting take offs or decomissioned ones.

[strike]According to ark.intel.com, that is 2011-3 socket, unless I'm making a huge mistake, but I don't see why Intel would step backwards with socket compatibiliy.

http://ark.intel.com/products/81060/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2698-v3-40M-Cache-2_30-GHz[/strike]

Crap, disregard, it is an older socket model. FOr some reason the search threw up the V3 processor first - that was 2011-3. SO now I'm confused. Mightily

Thats the v3, he is asking about the v4, check the link I posted

Already realized my error. Now going to read the full spec, it doesn't make sense

the scocket maybe compatible but the v4 chip is not compatible with the motherboard or any bios of the board

if this is your board no where does it have ''any'' v4 chips listed as compatible [matter of fact that's a sad cpu list ]

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99DELUXE/HelpDesk_CPU/

bottom line is not in the list just not supported

heres what I recall on this deal

''The E5 - v4 series -- The platform will be compatible with the C610 series chipset.

good luck ....

I need to correct myself. Its not LGA2011 its FCLGA2011 which is actually different and just as new (but still not LGA2011v3)

In the list's defense, its X99 so theres not many, and every one of the consumer CPUs is a 6 - 8 core killer.

And as mentioned, socket is definitely not compatible.

When I contacted asus they didn't give me answer, yes for support or no ... so you all guys here cant know what they will do , I found them on ebay and I thought that, if chips are there they should be on official site )) but I was wrong
I think: Intel supplies their first new chips for supercomputers like military , renderfarms entertainment ,and scientific stuff .. well
after that they will decide whether or not release bios on x99 chipset and xeon v4 support
because intel site is full of "?" on those chips it means there was no official release yet

same thing happens with p100 tesla superchip , no official release yet no chips for enthusiasts no chips for amazon ebay .. till 2017
but they already sell tons of those chips )) but they not for us

So Rogue Leader ... You did provide link which is full of question marks in other words they dont know themselves

No I didn't, maybe you need to look again:

http://ark.intel.com/products/91753/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2698-v4-50M-Cache-2_20-GHz

The CPU is completely listed out. Its also available to buy right now. Scroll down to sockets supported where it says FCLGA2011, which is different than LGA2011v3, then read the other article I posted.

The CPU will physically not fit as they key is different in the processor socket. Also even if it did fit the chipset doesn't support it as per the numerous other links we have posted.

As for the processors on eBay, I've seen those, and people here have bought them and most times when they are so cheap they turn out to be engineering samples. I just looked and sure enough the ones listed say ES in the title. Those are not supported by Intel, not meant to be sold, and not guaranteed to work properly (people here have had problems with them).

intel sure gone down a funny path with there chips this go round

just like they said xeon 1151 [skylake] would not be supported on 1151 100series boards .. so if you want xeon support on a skylake that's kinda nonserver type board you have to look at boards like this one with the Intel C232 chipset to get it..

[for example]
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20E3V5%20Performance%20GamingOC/

I was looking at asrock and see on there server boards with chipset ''C612'' claims v4 support and has a bios update for them listed ,BUT no v4 chips in the cpu list ??

'' Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v3&v4 series

http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=EP2C612D16C-4L#Specifications

same with the supermicro [funny I cant see or find a supported cpu list?? ]

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c600/X10SRi-F.cfm

Bizzare but smart of ASRock to tap that market, especially the game live streamers that are looking for a higher end Xeon to be able to stream, etc, and game at high FPS.

asus offsite says : Bios Update 3005
X99 deluxe Support the latest Intel® Core™ i7 X-Series processors.
