80 degrees on full load alright for a CPU?

Solution

Using stock cooler, yeah. I've had the processor for 2 years now, but not upgrading at the moment. Will these temperatures be alright until, say, mid-2017? That's when I intend to upgrade my PC. I don't need to reduce the clockspeed in the BIOS though, right?

thats fine for a stock cooler, if you have water cooling then certainly not. if you have an aftermarket cooler then id say thats high as well. its not gonna kill your computer though it will reduce its lifetime.

Well it will be fine. But when you can buy a 212 evo for 20$ why wouldn't you? I mean you would see some decrease in temps and mainly the system should run a little bit more silent. Since the stock intel coolers are know for that beautiful beautiful high pitch noise they produce under full loads.

No you dont need to change anything in the bios, and yes these temps will be fine ive had an i7 macbook playing WoW at 96c for 4 years it will most likely survive.

Although its not exactly best-practice, as above a cheap aftermarket cooler would be a nice solution paired with some nice thermal compund

Hyper 212 Evo isn't $20, as I live in Australia. My PC is practically silent under full load, as I have a well built and sturdy case with foam to sound cancel. I feel there's little need in spending money on an aftermarket cooler if it runs fine as is.
