Hello there :)

My motherboard is an Asus P8Z77 V-LX, and I just bought an I5 2500K. I'm going to buy a BeQuiet Pure Rock and I was wondering what overcloc, i could expect with such specs, and I was also wondering about the frequency i should be overclocking my CPU to. I'd like to know if after a certain frequency it won't bring any improvement in performance and just bring more stability issues.

Thanks guys !

In terms of gaming, overclocking won't offer much of an improvement, if at all. All of my games, which include AAA and CPU-intensive ones, run at the same frame rate regardless of the CPU's clock speed. Overclocking will only give you an edge if the CPU architecture is old and unable to keep pace with modern graphics cards, which isn't the case for Sandy Bridge.

Overclocking does offer a big improvement in other tasks however, such as photo and video editing.

Well there are usual lengths for pieces of string, plus if you ask someone who bought the same type of string than you, you can get some informations, even if they won't be 100% correct in the end. I'm just looking for experiences from people with this cPU and this kind of cooler. people with Hyper 212 Evo and other Rajintek Themis are welcomed.

I have that CPU with a 212 EVO, but that doesn't mean my overclocking results will be the same as yours. Every CPU responds differently, hence why it's important to research and understand what you're doing before you get started.

For the record, my results are:

4.0Ghz - 1.2V
4.2Ghz - 1.22V
4.4Ghz - 1.245V

But, like I said, you shouldn't base your overclock on my results. If you do and your PC crashes, how are you going to diagnose the problem?

Don't worry I know that I won't get the same results. I'm just looking for a "baseline", something to look at. Thanks for your reply. Do you know th speed after wich overclocking usually becomes useless ?
