GPU 70C at idle

I know these forum posts are everywhere, but I literally have been trying everything on every forum, and even stuff that isnt on the forums.

I am running a XFX Core Edition R9 290 and a FX-8320. Power Supply is a HX-750i by Corsair. My cpu runs at 50C at idle

Originally my GPU was running 80C at idle, but I manage to lower it to 70C at idle.

I have replaced the thermal paste with NT H1 - Noctua on the GPU itself as well as cleaned out the heatsync and fan so it has no dust on it. I increased air flow in my PC from 2 Fans to 5 Fans. I replaced the power supply and put it in its own system so it doesnt add any heat to the system. I cleaned out the whole system of dust and added dust filters. I moved my system from underneath my desk to on top of my Fridge where there is nothing within 1 foot on any side, and added a fan behind it to circulate air around it.

I am going crazy with this and I dont understand it. The other weird thing is under load the PC runs between 75-85C, which is not really a huge increase over idle.

I have tried to remove my overclock, tried enabling and disabling settings such as ULPS, unofficial overclocking mode (all three) to no success of changing the temperature of the GPU.

Please help

So I actually figured it out... Turns out if you overclock the XFX R9 290 even slightly, even by 1mhz it causes it to run 10-15 celcius higher. I am not sure why it does this, but it does. I lowered the memory clock and clock frequency to factory and it instantly drops the temperature. Power limit doesnt affect it however.

On top of the fridge may not be a good spot as the fridge is giving up heat itself which is flowing upwards.

Air circulation is important but at some point the flows become static and there must a cool area to absord the heat and further conduct or convect it away. As things get warmer the heat transfer process will slow.

That said the other issue is power. Your R9 minimum wattage requirement is 750. 850 watts recommended. Your Cosair PSU is rated at 750 watts.

You may have an underpowered system - doublecheck the specs and the total load on your PSU.

The top of my fridge is actually quite cool, in fact much cooler than sitting on carpet. Im assuming the only way to check the total load is with a plug thing? I am not sure what it is called.

I think you may be referring to a Kill-a-Watt meter.

http://www.pcgamer.com/how-to-measure-your-pcs-total-power-consumtion/

You best approach is to add up all the loads on system: motherboard, RAM, hard drives, optical drives, GPU, sound cards, etc.. per the device specifications. There are websites to help do such tallies - for example.

http://powersupplycalculator.net/

(As referenced in the Kill-a-watt link.)

okay for shits and giggles I upgraded my power supply (again) to a 850W platinum rated power supply, within 5 minutes of my computer starting up again I am at 76C... I also took time to do cable management, there are no cables anywhere near the graphics card except the one that has to be plugged into it.

-edit- this power supply has corsair link... so the power useage at this exact moment is 350W... no where near the 850W capacity of this power supply or the 750W power supply
