Hey there guys, so I found a cheap way to upgrade my old computer I got a modified X5470 CPU and put that on my Gigabyte ga p31-ds3l motherboard.

However I realised that because the new CPU has a tdp of 120w my current Arctic alpine gt 7 cooler is not adequate. So I need help in finding a cheap replacement because my computer keeps overheating and turning off.

I have another small heatsink with cooling fan right next to the cpu which restricts putting in a lot of the fans I've been looking at. I need a fan ideally similar size to the current fan I have. So please if someone could help me out would be great ideally a really cheap fan

Here's a link to a pic showing my current setup

Thanks for reading this guys

You need a heatsink made for your CPU. Since you are using a 771 CPU on a 775 motherboard, you will need to find a way to make it fit. Or you can buy a 775 heatsink and put a 771 base on it if you have the equipment to modify it.

Anyways what I posted made more sense to me when I posted it. I coulda explained my thoughts behind it if you had asked sooner =)

Hey thanks for the reply vance however I just checked and 771 fans apparently are not compatible with the 775 motherboard. Also I normally use the tdp to check if the fan is suitable for the cpu however a lot of fans don't list that.
I see you mentioned cfm what would you say is a suitable cfm for my cpu?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186090
80mm fan
500 - 2000 RPM,
28.6 CFM

These are currently available on newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W03XT7898
77mm Fan
At Duty Cycle 100%: 5500 RPM
At Duty Cycle 100%: 53.899 CFM

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W03XT8221
60mm Fan
At Duty Cycle 100%: 7400 RPM
At Duty Cycle 100%: 37.58 CFM

I would go with:

77mm Fan
At Duty Cycle 100%: 5500 RPM
At Duty Cycle 100%: 53.899 CFM

In addition, make sure you are not using some off brand thermal compound.
