I've read every one of the similar articles, and nothing seems to work. Replaced cables, changed ports on the MOBO, changed SATA power connector. HDD correctly ID'd in BIOS screen. Moved drive to laptop with USB/SATA adapter, drive shows up, I formatted with GPT partition, successfully copy data to/from. Move back to desktop system - nothing. Any help, greatly appreciated

Welcome to the TH forum, Dave!

I'd suggest you check your SATA controller and chipset drivers and make sure they are up-to-date. You should use the Drivers Pack CD or the mobo manufacturer's official website to find the latest updates on those. Another thing that might help would be a BIOS reset. It will get the settings back to factory defaults and, hopefully, you'll be able to detect the HDD properly.

I'd also recommend you to try connecting the HDD internally via SATA to another PC and see if it's going to be recognized there. You should also check the BIOS version on your motherboard and see if there are any updates available for that one as well.

Keep me posted.

Thank you, I will try the troubleshooting techniques you suggested. I did go to the vendor's website and updated the MOBO drivers. However I have not tried the other things you suggest - will do that and report back. Thank you! PS I see "WD" in your screen name - This is a WD Black 4TB (and I am a former 10 year WD employee!!)
