Hi TH forum, I am looking to upgrade my fans on my corsair h80i. Currently my temperatures max at 50c while playing games with my fx8320 @4.6 1.39v. Although temperature and performance are fine the stock fans are extremely loud, definitely the loudest component in my system.

I would like to replace the stock fans with the best performance to noise fans I can get. Preferably fans of equal or slightly less performance that are noticeably quieter.

Some fans I was looking at were the Corsair air series 120mm quiet edition static pressure - or the performance edition that spins at 2000+ rpm. As well as the Noctua f12 fans.

Please suggest the best option for my use, I would like to keep my cpu core temp under 55c.

Thanks, JP.

Solution

1) The maximum recommended temp is 70.5C for your 8320 (AMD website)
2) If your chip only handles 62 without shutting down you need to consider replacement
3) In general 70C is safe, even if AMD doesn't recommend it. For intel even 85C is safe.
4) No fan recommendations because it's a thermodynamics issue you have, all fans must be about 1500RPM to push the air needed for your target temperature. Quiet fans are usually...
The stock fans ARE the performance edition! If you want to keep an AMD chip under 55C though, deal with the noise, because it's not happening with the h80i! Instead, change your fan profile so that the chip hovers around 70C, and it will be much more quiet

Hi Basroil, thanks for answering. I was just using corsair link and was controlling the fans individually, one is making this horrible whine at anything over 1800rpm. The other one is much more quiet. I determined I only need each fan to spin at 1500 rpm to keep my cpu under 55c when gaming.

Could you suggest a replacement fan based on this info?

No, because fan speed and CFM is pretty much linear. 1500 is quite high, my 2600K overclocked only needs about 1000 at load to keep 60C. Again, change your target temperature, 65-70C will NOT harm your CPU

Unfortunately the max core temp is 62c, The max recommended is 55c. So setting my target temperature to 65-70 would effectively overheat my computer causing it to shut down.

Please don't provide misguiding information as it can cause others to damage their cpu.

Any replacement fan suggestions are appreciated.

You are referencing socket temp I am referencing core temp. They are two different readings. I never mentioned socket temps once throughout this article. Also it is in no way possible that running my socket temp .5c away from putting my computer into thermal protection is reccomonded by anyone who knows anything about amd vishera cpus.

Could you please provide a source stating a safe socket operating temperature for an fx 8320 is 70c? Or better yet someone recommending 70c as a safe core temp? As you seem to think they are the same thing.

Please stop spreading misleading information that will cause damage to peoples computers.

I hope you are trolling or something because your statements are ridiculous.

here is a link that states recommended socket temp by amd is under 62c, with various other information that shows your statements are invalid.
