I'd follow @smorizio's advice and make sure your external HDD's software & drivers are up to date. If you wish to eject the external HDD properly, you should go to Device Manager and try
uninstalling and reinstalling the hard drive as a device from there.
I'd also suggest you check your computer's/motherboard's USB hub controller drivers and manually update them from the PC/Mobo manufacturer's official website.
hi sorry for long reply , I tried updating the hdd but it says its already got the latest driver , how would I update the usb hubs ? its a dell studio 540s but the mobo says intel in like 2 different areas , I don't know were to start looking
