Chance to buy EVGA 980 for 300 or wait for possible chance at Pascal?

It's close to Q3 and from what I've learned, the new lineup of GPU's might be coming out soon. I know that even considering this, I have a chance for an absolute steal and I'm also sure that the 980's performance will still be relevant for the next couple years. I'm building my first PC and I'll be gathering the components over the course of the next couple months. Wondering if I should save the GPU for last on my list just in case something comes up in the meantime..or just snag this 980 while I have the chance. I'll be testing the card before I buy as well so I'll be sure of the condition (advertised as a month old, hardly any use, no OC). Seller is parting out his rig as he bought a gaming laptop. I'm planning on getting the i5 6600k and the z170x gaming 7 MoBo along with a 1440p monitor. Other peripherals TBD.

Thanks in advance for any advice and opinions!

Not sure if reference or not, I wouldn't know to tell. I'm assuming not since it's EVGA.

The quality and condition of the card will be determined when I test it. It's a local craigslist deal.

Well, he said he RMAed it last month and hasn't used it. He offered to download a few steam games to test it out in person as well even inviting me to bring my own rig (as if I have one :ange: ) to test it native to my rig. I'm assuming that if something was wrong with the card, he wouldn't be so open to that idea.

There's a few deals in my area...someone is also selling a Gigabyte GTX 980 Extreme gaming for 375...as well as someone else selling 2 EVGA 970's FTW with SLI + bridge for 500 or 250 each.

You think that's a better deal than the evga 980 for 300? I mean, even at $75 more..do you think it would be worth it?
