I have 2 290x 8gb cards and am having a bit of an issue with over heating in my Corsair 750D at the moment due to lack of fans, I'm getting around 90+ degrees on the main card when running 4K. I'm going to be adding 3 or 4 more fans to the system and a fan controller. Any suggestions on what I should look at? I had a look at Corsair AF 140mm fans, are they good fans to get? These fans will be on the top of my case and one on the bottom then if needs be.

Solution
The Corsair AF series are decent fans. The 140mm fans can still be pretty quiet while moving lots of air. The AF series are good for case fans. The SP series are better for heatsink / radiator fans as they are meant for higher static pressures.

Would 3x120mm fans on top as in take be a better options cooling wise? ill have the through a controller so the noise wont be a massive factor.

My preference has always been positive air pressure. That is to say more air intake than exhaust. If I can't get that, then at the very least I want balanced air pressure.

As for fan locations, usually fans at the rear and top are exhaust fans, fans at the front and bottom are intake fans. This is just the natural airflow, hot air rises, so why fight it, make the top and rear fans (rear fans are at the top too) exhaust. Cool air is down low so, bottom and front (most front fans are located toward the bottom of the case) are intake. Side panel fans are typically intake as well. This is mostly because they can provide fresh air directly over the GPU area. However I try to avoid side panel fans as they are a pain when removing the panel. In some cases they can create odd turbulence that can mess with the natural airflow from front to back.

Would putting my Corsair H80i on the rear as an intake cooling the radiator, adding an intake to the bottom of the case and having 3x120mm fans on top as exhaust be a viable option of getting a positive pressure and keeping everything cool?

I would keep the H80 at the rear of the case as an exhaust fan. I would have two fans up front as intake, the bottom of case as intake. Then I would put two fans on top as exhaust. This gives you three fans each, this should be pretty much give you a balanced set up.
