Hey,

I've gotten a tiny bit of paste in my CPU socket on the mobo. Picture of it (it's on the top to the right): http://imgur.com/MuVFC1m

Can this cause the PC to malfunction, even though it was fine for the first two days, or can I rule the paste out as the root cause of the problem?

My problem is that my new-build constantly reboots (after around 10 sec). Later it started to not even show a display. I've troubleshot everything, and it has come down to either the mobo or CPU as the cause.

My specs:
CPU: i7 2600k (not clocked)
CPU cooler: Cryorg H7
Mobo: Asus p8z68 Deluxe
GPU: 660 TI Power Edition
PSU: EVGA 650 GQ 80+ Gold
Storage: 840 samsung evo 250gb
RAM: 1600 Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4gb
Case: Corsair v70 Military (large mid-tower)

Solution
Go to an Auto Parts Store and get a can of CRC QD Electronic Component Cleaner, it is a spray that will not harm the motherboard and will instantly remove that TIM, with zero possibilities of socket pin damage, remove the motherboard and clean it outside the home, it takes a few seconds to dry.

It is flammable so don't smoke while you are using it, it also gets extremely cold, so if it is hot outside it may form moisture on the contacts, after it is clean use a hairdryer on low heat to dry off any moisture left in and around the socket, and you're good to go, clean as the day it left the factory.

But, since my PC has been running for a couple of days before this problem occured, could there really be a problem with the socket?

If possible, I'll prefer to leave it there, as I'm not so fond of toying in that socket of delicate pin hell
