Should I upgrade my motherboard or my Monitor first?

I currently have a Asus B85M-G motherboard and a Dell monitor from 2005. I have an i7-4790 processor and in the future I will upgrade to a GTX 970. My question is, should I upgrade my motherboard first or my monitor?

I'm currently leaning towards upgrading the monitor first.

Solution
A I7-4790 will perform exactly the same on any other lga1150 motherboard.
And... the 4790 is strong enough to run any fast graphics card.

I like the monitor upgrade first. It will let you know better just how strong of a graphics card you need.
Spend what you need to buy the best monitor your budget will allow. It will be with you for a very long time.

If you are now running a 1080P monitor, a GTX970 is probably optimal.
But... consider a 27"1440P or 30" 1600P monitor. Even a large 34"+ 4k monitor.
You are then looking at a GTX980ti class graphics card.

It is a non-k version, because I am not into overclocking. I have 16GB of RAM DDR-3. So I think the monitor comes first.

Definitely up the monitor. If your mobo can support an i7, you are set for the next few years. Honestly finding a mobo that fits your case and components is to much work, wait to up your mobo when you up your CPU.
