Can this PC be upgraded or should I Buy a new?

So... I bought a computer I think 3 years or so back. However, I'm really really inexperienced with computers (or as far as components go) -I just play the PC and if it runs games well I'm happy. Although recently I have been playing a lot of the game rust which seems really demanding and intensive. The way rust graphics work is there is Fastest, Fast, Simple, Good, Beautiful and fantastic, and with my current PC I can just about run it at fast with 60 FPS. And for such a good game that looks so cool I'd rather be able to run it at beautiful or fantastic. The only problem is I have a budget of around £400, and could push it maybe to £450 (Bear in mind please I'm only 14 so moneys tough getting 50p pocket money a week- equaling my seven year old brothers) so I would preferably not want to exceed this. This is my current PC, I had it made locally but they were kind enough to write up a component list.

So, my question is is this actually doable under my budget and if so I would appreciate it if someone could tell me which parts to upgrade and maybe send me their links - I only say that because Im so un technical i could still go wrong even with the exact name. Anyway Thanks for future help!

I must admit, I don't really know much about the game, so a quick Google search to see the minimum requirements.........and the 'net is full of complaints that it doesn't seem possible to get consistent 60FPS at any settings level, as the game hasn't yet been optimized. I don't know if that's still the case, but appeared to be the case 6 months ago - 2 years after the initial launch. Honestly, I wouldn't feel too confident of the game ever being optimized fully.

The minimum spec is nothing - you totally smoke that.

I see a variety of recommendations for the "ideal" setup for this game.
A CPU @ 3+GHz (nice & generic)
16GB RAM
a GTX 980 (wow! seems ridiculous).

So, it seems you really have to go overkill - much over what it...

So.....saying all that, I think the best use of your budget would be:

1. Bump to 16GB DDR3 - if the suggestions I've seen are close to correct, increased RAM will help a bunch (again, I don't know for sure, but it's a cheap upgrade).

2. a GTX 970, 4GB from Zotac - it's a big jump in terms of GPU quality/performance, and it should get you about as close to "perfect" from a GPU standpoint for the game, on a reasonable budget. A 980 or 980TI would be options too, but I don't think you'd necessarily see proportionate improvements for the cost involved.

3. Upgrade that PSU. The CX line is far from the worst, but also far from the best. Unfortunately it doesn't tend to last. If you've had it 3+ years, I would ensure that's upgraded before you put any new, higher value components in there.
I've suggested a quality unit and, at 620W gives you plenty headroom too.

4. An SSD for overall 'speed' improvements. Boot to Windows in <5-10 secs etc. A "nice to have" and i'm just throwing it out there. It wouldn't impact your Rust performance, so if you are simply looking for that, then drop the SSD from my recommendations.

I'm really not too sure about the RAM element.
I suggested the 16GB as there were some comments I saw elsewhere online that claimed to show some performance gains. Realistically, it's not likely to, but with the lack of optimization, it's difficult to be sure. Considering it's relatively low-cost also, it's probably not a bad idea - I've no first-hand experience of the game though, so I can't confirm if it'll improve anything.

As far as priority of the upgrades
1. PSU / 1. GPU (they're of equal importance. You want the better GPU, but don't do it on the CX PSU. Upgrade the PSU at the same time)

2. SSD (for overall speed "boost")

3. RAM.

The 970 or 390 is definitely where you want to be.

Shame this wasn't 2 weeks ago , I grabbed a load of Asus 970's with a free 240gb ssd + farcry primal+ the division for less than £280 a pop.

One of those bundles would have suited you down to the ground
