Hi! i've got to use three different notebooks over the last year. Here are the models with the basic configuration:

1 - Asus X552EP series, AMD A4-5100 CPU, 4GB DDR3, 500GB Western Digital blue
2 - Lenovo Z50-70, Intel i3-4030u, 4GB DDR3L, 1TB Toshiba
3 - Sony Vaio, Intel i3-3217u, 4GB DDR, 750 GB HGST

When passing from the Asus onto the Lenovo, i noticed a significant drop in performance, despite it being a significantly more powerful computer. Simply, the tasks wouldn't snap/switch so quickly and the computer would sometimes freeze when copying large files. I've had none of those issues with the lower-powered Asus. Then recently on a trip i transitioned to a Sony of a more similar configuration to the Asus, to find again the gain in performance, despite it being also a lower power model. On all the three computers i'm performing similar tasks in the same system environment (Win 8,1).

What could be the issue? A worse motherboard?

My primary suspicions were on the HDD but after benchmarking all the three the Lenovo's Toshiba actually got the highest points although the three were similar. The only thing that the two faster operating computers have in common is that they use the older DDR3 memory with higher voltage. Could it be due to that? I considered upgrading my memory on the Lenovo to form a dual-channel but not sure if that would solve the issue. Would be interesting to hear if anyone has noticed any such issue before.

Thank you.
