Can I hold a motherboard by the heatsink? (of the CPU cooler)

Hi guys, I have one question I'd like to ask:

I have to change the motherboard in my self built PC. Its a Rampage IV Black Edition (so, LGA 2011) and my cooler is a Noctua NH-U14S. So basically, sturdy hardware I guess.

Now my problem is that space is very tight in my case, and it would be a bit hard to swap the mobo by holding it on the sides. In addition I would prefer changing the cooler when my mobo is out of the case.

Now, what I have done before is simply holding the mobo by the mounted heatsink when pulling it out and inserting it again. Was much easier, aparently did not break anything (plus I had one free hand) - but well, maybe that still was a bit risky? Can I do harm to my mobo by doing this or can this be considered safe?

Solution
It is completely safe to handle the motherboard's heatsinks and it is recommend to do so instead of holding from the sides or touching electronic components. However when you're pulling it out or installing it, it's recommended to hold it by the CPU cooler instead (it's easier to handle it that way).

I think he IS referring to the CPU cooler. Yes, it's perfectly safe assuming that it is mounted securely.
