I have issues with hard drive.
Recently my uncle gave me his hard drive sata 2 because his motherboard went down and he bought new mini case so hdd he was having previously can't mount in that new mini case.

I mounted it on my mobo but since i 've done that booting up is pretty slow and computer freezes sometimes.

I ran couple checks(sentinel, defrag, formatting, chkdsk) but neither of them showed some error.

He claims he never got issues with this hdd.
I hear clicking and noises when turn on computer.
it is my 2 nd hard so my os is on 1 st hdd.

Also i hear like it is turning on couple times while using computer like hdd is trying to turn on couple times, but the strangest thing is that i can access all files and folders and copy and paste on hdd.

Any advice?
Thanks in advance!

P.S. My 1st hdd is also sata 2.

Well to me it`s a symptom of a hard drive that has problems locating data on the drive.

If the sound is like a very rapid ticking in succession, then the drive sounds like it spins down in rotation speed and then fires up again with the same sequence of ticking noise.

Basically it means the read and write heads of the mechanical drive are wearing out. or there is a physical hard error on the disk platter of the drive.

When you do a disk check there are two types you perform.
One is for recoverable errors, and one is for flagging bad parts of the disk where the sectors are worn or failing or there are physical hard errors of the disk platter.
The drive, or data mapping of it is told to not use the area of the disk that is impaired...
if the controller or the spindle motor as failing these wont show up unless you run a vendor drive fitness test and then it may still pass. most times with drives the grease inside the drive goes bad from age. when it does the drive will start making noise. clicking or a huming sound. if the drive is under warranty you could get it replaced. if it out of warranty i ask if you uncle needs any of the data on the drive. if he does i would use the cloud storage and move the data off.

I'm not expert when it comes to this, but possibly a weak power supply could be the issue? might not be giving the correct amount of voltage needed to the hard drive.
You could also get a new SATA cable and try another power cable from the power supply.
Correct me if I'm wrong

No, it's not a "weak" PSU that's causing the problem. You can try another SATA data cable and connect the disk to another connector coming off the PSU, but don't purchase any item yet.
Actually the first thing you should do is test the HDD with a HDD diagnostic program. All the major disk manufactures have one available so check this out at their websites. There are also third-party diagnostic programs available as well. Do a Google search. But test the disk.

One of the signs coupled with it is the drive being slow to react to a read cycle or read access, along with the ticking sound in rapid succession.
