I have a chance at both of these cards this coming weekend..I would be able to test both before buying to make sure they function properly. I'd probably be able to haggle the 980 Xtreme down to 350..but even then, would it be worth it over the EVGA model? I will be OC'ing. These are meet up deals. I really need some solid, thought out opinions!

Thanks in advance!

heres the thing maybe to look at ?

like at newegg look at the gigas 900 cards like this 980 ti for a example see that 5 egg only 52%

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125787

or there 970 at 56% ??

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125684

and so on when the rest poplure cards like say evga is 70+% ??? why is that ??

then in the 980 dept, you see what cards sells if the most reviews reflect sales ??

then if something were to go wrong we know evga support is hard to beat and easy to work with fast rma and all ??

but it all comes down to what you feel is best for you and your needs

good luck

So, just to clarify, you think overclocking is worth the $50 premium? I'm wondering if there'd be a $50 performance difference if both cards were overclocked.

gigabyte card can be overclocked more than the evga that makes the difference...
It really doesnt matter since both cards are same models.....

The Gigabyte graphics card has over double the power phases (12 vs EVGA's 5), and two 8pin power connectors vs EVGA's two 6pin. Gigabyte's card easily beats the EVGA's card in overclockability based on those things (theoretically).

Personally, I'd wait for one of the upcoming cards which may be here as soon as JUNE.

Something like the X70 (real name?) may be roughly the same as GTX980 in DX11 and probably noticeably better in many DX12 titles.

I suspect the X70 will have at least 6GB of VRAM too.

Above is educated speculation, but we do know AMD card coming soonish too so there is going to be some tough competition.

Think about the price/performance ratio though. Will I get 980 performance for 300-350 even given the new lineup of GPU's? Almost certainly not.
