Ok, so I'm trying to move some files for my buddy. He used to have an Xbox and had a 1tb external hard drive for the storage of movies and games. Now he switched to ps4 (I know pc is better) anyway he needed his hard drive reformated and movies switched over. I thought it would be easy but... Reformat was easy, the 4 root files were np. I moved a test file on again, np played on the ps4 and everything. However when i went back home to move the bulk video files it always seems to crash when moving over larger files. I can get a doc or pic on there but no videos... Any thoughts? Is there a tool to use? The other hard drives involved are fat or ntfs does this matter? Could the hard drive just be messed up? Really anything you can think off plz.. Just want to stop banging my head against the wall.

At the end there, doesn't the PS4 simply format the drive itself?

also,
We are talking about an EXTERNAL USB drive that has issues?

So you formatted this on a PC yourself or what? It's not clear...

If so, does your PC even support that formatting properly?
(For Windows I use NTFS only, occasionally FAT32)

Movies:
I'm not clear on how movies work on the PS4 since I don't own one, but from what I read an external drive has to be FAT32 only?

Just to clarify...
No it's not like an Xbox it doesn't self format. You must format it manually and set up the root directory.

Yes I formated it on a pc.

Yes it is an external usb conected 2tb generic hard drive (wd passport ultra)

Pc:
Amd am3 86Somthing
16g ram
Amd r9 390x 8GB (msi)
Windows 10
(assume it's supported as it's one of two options in the drop down box)

It has one 250g solid state and a 2tb internal and I have two similar hard drives but i don't think I used exfat. They work normally, any file any size seems to move without issue. (tested) also I have tried the file transfer using another pc. (failed) in fact that failure left the drive unrecognizable until reformat.

Currently the drive is reconized on pc and ps4.
It's files show up in media player.

Problem: I can only seem to move small files onto it. I mean mb sized small.

Idk enough about or have enough experience with exfat file formats or ps4 and housing / acessing external media to know if this is normal. It is my understanding it must be formated in exfat and have a root directory that includes the file names games, video, savedata, and music. The playstation reconizes this and files im able to get on there are viewable.

Yeah, so... Any advice out there.... Its been like a week and still no help. Putting in a new hard drive is great and all but I already have the external, and where it says in that article ps4 doesn't support it, must be outdated.... Anyone.... Please.....
