Alright so i just spread the artic silver 5 thermal compound on the cpu to the best of my ability, my starting idle temps are 29-33 degrees, Is that normal, good, what? I know it will take 200 hours of constant thermal cycles to break the paste in, after i break the paste in, what would you image my idle temps would be? maybe 26-30? i dont want to test the full load yet because i just applied the paste. And all this is with a liquid cooler

Solution
I figured it out, did some researching why the corsair h80i liquid cooler was giving shitty temps, apparently some mainboards are too thin and when the cooler is attached to the backplate there is a gap between the cooler and the cpu, so what i did was put washers on the backplate so it could lower the gap so the liquid cooler would actually touch the cpu, i reapplied the artic silver 5, started my pc up, ran prime 95, full load is 65-70 degrees, so much better than 98-100

Artic silver 5 doesn't require any 'breaking in' & temps won't change significantly from first installation - that info is an absolute myth.

Idle temps on both Intel & amd are inaccurate at best - expect ambient temp + up to 10c generally.

You can ( and indeed should) stress test now to make sure your cooler install is all good.

You will have to post full system specs for any advice on whether your results are good.

I just used prime 95, the instant i started it my temps jumped up to 100 degrees, it would rarley go below 89 degrees at one point but then i just jumped back to 100, Wtf am i doing wrong? Couple days ago before i applied this paste i was doing some video editing on sony vegas and the temps got up to 80 something degrees, and this is a water cooler, corsair h80i. intel core 4770k

Put your finger right on the cpu block/pump your should feel a slight vibration, if you dont then your pump is not working. Try and set your CPU back to stock settings and run the test again, see what your temps are. If they are still high then redo the thermal paste.
