Hallo guys

I was wondering if my system would last me 2 years without any upgrades?

Spec:
CPU: I5 4690K
RAM: 16GB
PSU: sharkoon wpm600
MB: asus z97 AR
GPU: R9 290X MSI
SSD: 250GB Sp550
Cooler: CM hyper 212 evo
HDD: 2X 4TB

The only thing i do with the system is gaming at 1080p

Thanks.

Solution

Your PC is pretty good.
Decent CPU and Decent GPU + SSD @ 1080p you should be fine for the next 2years i think.
If you are having decent airflow in your case and everything stays cool or at least in norm, your PC can last you even longer, like 4years.
Of course if you want to play everything @ ultra you will have to update...

At 1080p yes.
If you have SSD it will last even longer, not everything on ultra but most of the content.
Air cooling ?

For just 1080p gaming, absolutely. If you would ever get into those 64+ player MMO's though, want to record, stream, or have a second monitor to multitask on while gaming over the next two years, then I would consider the 1231v3 in the same price bracket:

It is not going to do quite as well as the unlocked K's fps-wise in single player gaming, but overall I would characterize it as having more staying power as a CPU due to its 8-threaded performance over the upcoming years.

While i agree, i also disagree.
Currently some systems are being revived only with putting an SSD in them.
Yes SSD does't makes overall difference if his CPU or GPU cant play the game @ max, yet in some cases HDD bottlenecks system in such a way that it's unusable.
Most recent case that i remember is with a laptop (today) - lenovo g50 i5 cpu 8g ram, works like a shit because of hdd.
No offence, once again as i said i agree and disagree in the same time.
@Geekwad if he uses PC as workstation yes, and if he is going to use it as you say probably yes.
Else - currently most of the games cant fully utilize even 2 cores, not to mention threads.

Sure man, agree for both - games that utilize 4cores and that 4690k is a great CPU.
Don't take me wrong, never wanted to offend you.
So we agree that his rig is fine :)
Still i wonder if he is air cooling it.

Agree, but that's why I like throwing it out there as an option. I've found that 'gaming' sometimes include those things but aren't specifically mentioned, and have upgraded some old i5 systems to i7/Xeon because many players are wanting to record, stream, run a Vchat in the background, and play huge MMOs......but still consider it 'gaming'.

No complaints about the i5, mind you :p

from experience on PvP MMOs like War Thunder or World of Warships, an SSD can make the difference between loading in time, before the game starts, and dying before you get loaded in. I speak from personal experience. before upgrading to me current PC, my load times were up to 2 minutes after the start of a match, potentially deadly

Of course if you want to play everything @ ultra you will have to update video in 2 years probably.
Or if you switch to 4k and still want ultra settings, then probably you will have to update video again.
I guess your CPU will be decent for at least 3 to 4years, except if you don't start to play some insanely CPU intensive game, which is unoptimized and uses only 1 core and/or is optimized for AMD ...
