I'm getting a i7 5820k for a gaming PC I'm going to build but this will be my first build so I'm not going to overclock right away. I want to overclock when I'm able to, but for now, which thermal paste do you recommend?

I didn't know a thermal paste will be provided. If that's good for my situation, I would use it.

It always is included and it usually is quite good. You don't need to buy thermal paste unless you plan on installing and then removing the cooler; then the old paste has to be cleaned and replaced.

I still have to apply the thermal paste, right? Or is it already applied? If it's already applied, I'll just use that. If not, I still want to know if there's a better choice for this CPU if it's not being overclocked.

Some aftermarket coolers come with thermal paste pre-applied, some others (like NH-D14, NH-D15) come with a tube of thermal paste that you have to apply, and some others don't come with any thermal paste. All depends on what aftermarket cooler you buy. Some of the aftermarket coolers come with very good thermal compound in their own right. When I Installed the NH-D15S in my rig I used the included thermal paste from Noctua as it was very good thermal paste (the equal of the MX-4 I usually use for customer builds).

Since 5820k is for overclocking and I wasn't going to overclock at first and I read that the best thermal paste depends on the situation, I thought I might need a different thermal paste than what most people use for 5820k. Now I know it doesn't make any difference.

Thanks to everyone for the thermal paste recommendations and all the info!
