Minecraft FPS really low

Hey, I was just wondering why I only average 15-25 fps in Minecraft with this computer:
CPU: 2.6GHz i5 2540m
GPU: HD Graphics 3000
RAM: 6GB DDR3
HDD: Seagate 7200 250gb
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64

To me it would seem like I should be getting much better fps than what I have. On my iMac (late 2006 2.16 20" white) I consistently get 30-35 fps on the same vanilla server. Any ideas as to why? Also I tried installing Ubuntu, there I get 60 fps average.

Well that's weird. Try re-installing Minecraft. Also I suggest you install a mod called OptiFine. It will boost your game a lot!

Another thing I would like to mention is that Minecraft is very CPU dependent. It doesn't require a strong GPU instead it relies on your CPU. So make sure that you aren't running many unnecessary programs. You can check that in your Task Manager(Windows). Hotkey: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete".

Unlikely, I have friends on the server who get 60-90 fps and the iMac gets better framerates although it's 7 years older

Yeah I would think that my i5 would be more than enough to run Minecraft 60+ fps if 30fps is achievable on a first-gen Core2Duo. In Task Manager, nothing much special, just the apps I have open - 42% CPU @ 3.10GHz, 59% memory (surprising since I have 6GB), 5% disk with only Edge, Minecraft, and Task Mgr open.

Can you check you CPU temperature? Maybe your CPU is overheating and it can't perform well due to it? Here is a tool you can use to check temps:" http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html"

CPU 1 @ 51C, 2 at 52C so definitely not overheating

Yeah. I'm not sure what's causing the issue then. Your CPU should definitely be able to handle Minecraft. Try re-installing it.
