Brand new build all new parts. I recently installed win 7 ultimate. Created a user name and password went to register and realized my key is for pro. So I download pro from ssme site set it up to boot from USB like before. It goes to install I format HDD and 5% into Windows expanding I get error 0x80070570. I tried removing battery from mobo to reset. Tried doing install again after error. All my hardware just worked installing ultimate and now I'm getting this error?? Do I need to wipe my HDD and try? I don't get it?

I've no reason to think a USB version would differ in any way from the DVD so there's no good reason why it isn'ty safe to leave the formatting to Windows. That said, if you can easily hook it up and run a quick format, that would deal with the 100MB bit and prepare the way to an NTFS format.

Well there's your problem! </ADAM>

If ssme (sic) site wasn't some Microsoft site, you probably got more than you wanted. Most fake copies of Windows come with large amounts of malware. You need to format the disk because the Ultimate installation probably reserved 100MB of space for its own use and that won't work with Pro. Make sure you can read your Product Key and borrow a a genuine MS DVD of Pro and you should be OK.

The website seemed legitimate. I could only find good reviews about it and it wss not riddled with ads. Still I agree installing with discs would be best. I just haven't found any locally. I've been reformatting when windows asks where to save to. I format and select my HDD. Do I need to format it in a different manner? Or will using discs and formatting then fix my problem?

A Windows DVD will carry out the format and include that 100MB partition. I was speculating that the download you had was confused to find one already there. Pro is pretty rare so you will struggle to borrow one so try a download from Microsoft's site and burn that to a DVD disk using ImgBurn or similar. Alternatively, you could follow their instructions as to hwo to put it on to a USB stick.

The key will only work with the build number of the win 7 pro it was first issued with, it's not just the difference of editions. the first pro build comes no updates, then next build had more updates and so on till the final build, your key must align with the build it was issued

My key is brand new hasn't been used with any version of pro. I was under the impression I could use it with any build number. I've called locally and cannot get discs from 5-10 shops. So i must order it or fix my download version to work. I don't get why ultimate installed but after reformatting my hard drive pro won't. Unless the 100mb partition is from ultimate and it's only reformatting the rest..??

Do I need to hook my HDD up eternally to another PC and format it that way? Or should I just srsp download and order discs and format when I install using that??

I've been leaving it to Windows and it hasn't worked. I have another computer and an external USB hard drive adapter. I will try formatting myself and see if maybe that fixes my issue. Thinking maybe Windows is leaving a bit of ultimate behind so it doesn't wanna install pro now..
