Black screen after installing windows 10

So the other day I saw a notification asking me to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, so I decided to do it.

It finished downloading, installing updates, then prompted that my pc would restart soon. After my pc restarted, it booted back up but nothing was on my screen besides my tvs (I use a TV as a monitor) default text telling me to select an input.

When I realized something was wrong I immediately went to Google and searched something generic like "pc on but no display". One of the first solutions that came up was to clear the cmos on my motherboard, so I proceeded to do that. No change.

I would boot into safe mode but I literally can't see anything on the screen. As I continued to attempt to troubleshoot my pc it sounds almost like it's not booting up fully. My friend said windows 10 was a piece of crap and many people are having this issue or a similar issue.

My monitor is connected to my pc with a hdmi to dvi cord. Anyone have any ideas on what to do? I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks

Solution
Ok so for some reason when I disconnected the cpu cooler I must have reconnected it to the cpu pump connector and not the cpu fan connector. So I just reconnected it to the cpu fan spot and the fan is running fine now.

Yeah I suppose I will have to do that. Thanks for listening to me ramble on. I like to think I have learned at least a little on what to do and not to do. Have a good day

Yeah someone told me that maybe some of my drivers weren't updated and that caused the crash. I'm going to try to dust everything off and unplug my ram and hard drive to see if that works.

So you think the motherboard is just faulty? I am going to take my monitor and hdmi to dvi cord over to my buddies house to test it on his computer tonight.

Another quick question. In my attempts to dust the computer with dust off I removed the cpu cooler and accidently touched the thermal paste with my finger. After reinstalling everything the fan seems like it's running a million miles an hour. I assume the fix for this would be to clean the paste off them reapply new thermal paste?

I only removed the cooler after I said that I was going to dust everything off a couple of posts back. I just need to get thermal paste. So you think me smudging the paste is why the fan is spinning too fast?

So in terms of the monitor still being black what is your first recommendation at this point? Pretty soon I'm going over to my buddies house to test my monitor. I will let you know how that goes

The dust was just really cached on there so I thought it would be easier to take it off. I mean I knew not to touch it I just accidently grazed it as I was removing the cooler.

Ok I reapplied thermal paste. The fan is still spinning really fast. Tested my monitor and cord at my friends house. They were both fine. I'm at a loss at this point
