So up untill recently I haven't had any problems with overheating. The CPU was running just fine, but one day it decided to overheat, and I have no idea why it start overheating. I thought the thermal paste might've been the problem, but when I tried taking the heat sink off, the CPU was stuck to it. I applied some new thermal paste and put it back exactly like it was before and now I'm my cpu is overheating like never before. It's sitting idle at 50C and whenever I play games it usually just shuts down.

CPU: AMD FX8350
Motherboard: gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3
I'm using the stock fan

Solution
Did you clean the old thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol? How much paste did you apply? What kind? What method of application (dot, t, line etc). Is it the stock cooler? Is the fan functioning?
