Hey guys,

My problem is that my pc just won't start.
It all started when something broke a few weeks ago, it wouldn't turn on anymore, fans would spin for literally a millisecond and then just nothing.

So I RMA'd the PSU, to no avail. So I said fuck it pets RMA the MB and Cpu. They were delivered today and I still have the same problem as four weeks ago.

I'm at a loss here I wouldn't know what it could possibly be. I don't believe it could be one of the three parts as they are brand new.

Thinking it might be the power button, I tried shorting the pins on my MB. It didn't do anything. I'm starting to think my case is cursed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These are my specs btw
I7 6700k - brand new
Cm v1000 psu - brand new
Asus z170-p d3 - brand new
2x4gb ddr3 kingston ram
Gtx 780 msi

It can happen - remember, you have a good PSU with protections and a catastrophically failed GPU (you said the PC broke very quickly) can cause all sorts of wacky issues. Breadboarding is always useful for these tough-to-diagnose issues, simply because you're able to isolate things more conveniently...

Yay, breadboarding worked. Everything sounds normal so I guess it went into boot without any problems.

What would be the best thing to continue with now? Like should I try connecting the Gpu, Hdd etc, perhaps in a particular sequence?

I think it might be the power button itself though. I have never heard of a gpu or hdd preventing a pc from booting, let alone start up entirely. But I'll leave it to the experts.

Yes connect the parts one by one. I'd start with the gpu. If it fails try a different slot. Then add the storage to see if you can actually go to windows. Also make sure if you can that the parts you were sent are indeed different ones.

If everything works outside of the and not in the case, you should have a faulty wire or power switch.

Oh wow, it seems the Gpu might have been the culprit. With my gpu installed, everything I short start my breadboard it immediately turns off just like the pc.

I'm going to put everything in the case again, this time no gpu, and see if it works. If it does, culprit found I guess. If not then there are multiple culprits.

I have never heard of a GPU preventing a pc from starting though. Would anybody know what's up with that?

Generally speaking, the more things you can take out of play, the better.

Hopefully this is the culprit. And even more hopefully, that your GPU is still under warranty (the 780s came out in 5/13 so I'm optimistic).

Well at least now I know what the issue was. I reassembled my entire pc except the Gpu and now it starts just fine. Thanks for the breadboarding advice. Without it it would probably have never occurred to me the Gpu might be the cause.

(Different pci slot didn't do anything by the way but thanks for the tip nonetheless.)

I'll still have to wait till my new gpu though since my monitors can't connect to the motherboard because drivers.

By the way, about the Gpu warranty. I bought it second hand without a receipt.. They should still be able to check the serial number though, and I believe it should still be in warranty even if I bought it second hand without a receipt. Hope I'm not screwed.

Wish you luck on your warranty! I hope that you eventually get up and running - you sounded like you were at wit's end and would hate to lose a PC builder!
