Specs below.

Noise is random fan like noise that randomly, definitely randomly, rises and falls.

I don't know if it's the famous "whine" from the VGA, but I know it's not the fans themselves because when I crank the fans using the EVGA Precision X software I can hear the fans themselves and that is NOT the noise driving me batty.

It has something to do with the card in some way. May be the stock cooler... I really don't know.

It doesn't happen unless I am running a game.

Thank for the help!

Cryorig H7 would be the CPU cooler i'd recommend. Its a good price, quiet and has very good reviews.

It might be your stock Intel CPU fan as that i7-4790K runs quite warm and i'm sure that stock fan runs high constantly (If its not coil whine from the GPU). You may also want to check and make sure no wires or anything is obstructing any fans and creating that noise. You could remove the GPU and if the noise stops (after going into a game) then you know its the card. Coil whine does go away eventually but if your within warranty you could always RMA the GPU for another one.

Thanks for the response.

I RMAed this card for a replacement already. EVGA tested the old card and it passed, no issues.

No cords in the way.

I'm searching youtube to see if I can find a recording of the infamous "coil whine".

I think it's either that or the stock cooler fan bouncing up and down all the time, but especially under the increased load when I run a game.

UPDATE - K, just listened to a good coil whine on YouTube. It's not that.

Gotta be the CPU fan.

Time to replace the stock cooler with something that can better handle that heat, and is a LOT more quiet.

K it's here and going in this weekend. Not taking the MB out (access to back of board on the great Fractal case) and a second pair of hands is available. :)

Been awhile since I've cleaned the paste off a CPU and repasted. Advice?

Thanks for the advice and link.

If the fan noise that's randomly going up and down is the CPU cooler fan, why is the controller telling it to do so? The time between fan speed changes are anywhere from a half a second to a few minutes and it is totally random.

Just wondering.

TBH, I have no idea. One would think its because the CPU is heating up and the fan speeds up to cool it down or the sensors are incorrectly reading the temp and causing these spikes in fan speed when its not actually needed.

Thanks for the reply Harrison. Its not a squeaking, definitely a fan increasing and decreasing in speed. Random changes in RPM at totally random times, the only constant being it does it more when under load while gaming.

Thanks WildCard.

Are the heat sensors located within the chip itself? Wonder if the chip has a fault.

Dunno... but the new HSF goes in today so I'll post an update later today!

:)

Just a heads up on this thread.

Since moving and putting my machine out in the open with good airflow and off the floor ZERO NOISE and I still havent put in the new cooler yet.

Yes, I will (I promise) but the issue was very clearly heat and dust in the old location.

Eww.
