Can the GTX 970 reach 1080p 60fps while recording or should I go for a higher GPU?

So I know I asked a question similar to this, but I didn't quite get a clear answer and, I want to start making gaming videos on Youtube and I have all the parts except a GPU, and my question is will the 970 be able to hit 1080p 60fps in most games while recording with OBS which takes a 10-20% fps hit? I use OBS because of the options you have to make for better videos. I would also prefer ShadowPlay for other certain situations over Evolved (AMDs Recording software). Should I go for something higher than the 970 to get 60fps while recording?

P.S. The parts I have are i7 4790k, MSI GAMING 5 mobo, 16gb RAM, 750w PSU, and 2 hard drives one for the videos.

I haven't actually benchmarked the exact fps difference but I'm 99% sure I lose no performance (maybe 1-2 fps that I haven't noticed) it's great :D

I would go for something stronger if you're looking at a 15-20% hit. My 980 SC struggled to get 60fps in Witcher 3 at 1080p (ultra settings, no hair) and I average mid to high 50s with 1440p resolution now.

Why are you recording with OBS if you have shadowplay? Sorry if I misunderstood but shadowplay gives very little, if any performance loss. Also, recording will usually hit the CPU, not the GPU. I record with shadowplay (also did on my 970) and hit 60+ with ultra settings in pretty much every modern game except rise of the tomb raider.

dayum totally forgot about the shadow play and yeah it does take low fps than other softwares...

It's because modern Nvidia GPUs have a hardware video encoder built into them. This can be used without taking away gaming performance. Recording software like OBS and FRAPS is different. They use CPU cycles that could be used to run your game to encode video instead.

It makes more sense to record with Shadowplay. You can select whatever bitrate you want to create great looking video at the same resolution you played at with a full 60 FPS. Then edit your videos with whatever software you want.

I think OBS is mostly used by people who want to do Twitch streams with higher production values like using a green screen to overlay yourself on the game video. I'm not sure it provides any benefit over shadowplay for gameplay recording quality though.

that's ok I use OBS to record so I can record my friends voices and mine. I will be using ShadowPlay when I'm by myself or want to do a commentary.

yes I am considering a 980Ti as well as the 390.

Shadowplay will record TS/Skype by default, and if you set it to record your mic too, it will do the exact same :)
