so i got this new setup consists of amd fx 8350 stock clock 4ghz ,asus strix gtx 980 , antech kuhler 650 and 8gb strontium dual channel memory @1333mhz .i get random fps drops in games ,i tried bf4 the fps drops from 90 to 30 or even below ,it spikes contionuosly from 30 90 creating an unplayable gameplay ,also i tried dota 2 fps falls from 120 to 40 and then goes to 50 and back to 120 being completely random ,the kuhler cools the cpu well , idle tems are around 28 and load temps never exceed 40 ,im using an 875 watt dell psu which i took from my alienware aurora ,also this happens in crysis 3 where fps will drop from 70 to 28 randomly ,the problem of cpu throttling or motherboard throttling is out of the picture as the mb temps never exceed over 40 and the setup is being run on an open air test bench ,pls help me diagnose the problem .im using windows 7 pro ,and i have scanned the entire system using malwarebytes with no viruses.

If you have a 60 Hz monitor try setting adaptive vertical sync in the NV control panel 3D settings to "adaptive". It'll keep it from going over 60 FPS and should help smooth things out. Also, do check for CPU throttling (dropping below 4.0 Ghz). In Windows set the power options to "high performance". Then monitor the CPU while you play (you can use something like HWINFO64). If it goes below the stock 4.0 Ghz the power phases are probably overheating (even if the CPU itself isn't).

That said your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU. I have an FX-8320E @ 4.4 Ghz with a GTX 970 and in Fallout 4 (especially) it will drop from 60 FPS to 35-40 FPS in CPU demanding areas very suddenly. It doesn't do it constantly though.

yup ,i guess ull are right ,i touched the vrms of the cpu and and the power phases beside them they were hot to very hot on idle even though the cpu was cool , my question is how do i combat this issue ,ive ordered for a circle cc830 cabinet for my setup ,wiil the cooling solution provided by the cabinet solve the problem of vrm throttling ? is there a way i could cool the vrms ? also can ull suggest me better and pocket friendly boards that come with heatsinks on the vrms and will support am3+ socket , thanks in advance

im based in india and the board u mentioned costs 9000 rs ie 135$ which is quite expensive ,i was thinking of going with ga 78lmt -s2pv or ga 78lmt ,both have heatsinks over the mosfets and would get the job done ,do you think i should proceed ?

coz they cost 4000 rs ie 60 us $?? pls reply i dont wanna make haste descions

Unless you keep your room cool and you use the stock CPU cooler, they will also throttle the CPU at full load. A 125W CPU requires a 6+2 phase or better VRM to prevent throttling at full load.
