How do you remove black borders from recording?

I learned some time ago that removing black borders from letterbox scenes or games that use that AR exclusively is a lot harder than most think. Just taking a look at how Philips did it when they made the first letterbox AR TV was quite enlightening.

That said, there's an easier way that doesn't actually remove it, but rather crops the image to not show it. You have to have a video editor that crops though, or use another tool along with your video editor that does, of which the latter takes longer.

However, you're still going to have problems in games that only show cutscenes with black borders, with the rest being 16:9. You're also going to have to stretch the image either vertically or horizontally if you don't want black bars to show in a net player like YouTube, which is why most don't bother removing black bars, because it distorts the image.
