Which laptop should I choose?

I'm looking for a laptop that can handle demanding software and video games, but also function as a casual device I can use for just about anything. With some customizations, I've made it so that the specs between these two laptops are almost identical. The only differences are in the graphics card, RAM, and price.

HP Envy 17t:

  • > nVidia GeForce GTX 950M 4GB
    > 16GB DDR3 (2 slots; maximum is either 16 or 32)
    > $1340
ASUS ROG G752VL:

  • > nVidia GeForce GTX 965M 2GB
    > 32GB DDR5 (4 slots; maximum is 64)
    > $1620
The prices are as shown on Amazon, but are similar to what's listed on their respective sites. Both normally cost about $1900.

They both have:

  • > 6th Gen Intel Core i7-6700HQ Processor Quad-Core
    > 1TB 5400 RPM HDD + 256GB SSD
    > Windows 10 Home 64-bit
    > 17.3" 16:9 IPS (1920x1080) Touchscreen
They also have the same battery, networking card, and optical drive.

The ASUS seems better with a bigger RAM and newer graphics card, but is that enough to justify an extra $300? As far as brands go, is HP or ASUS more reliable? Overall, which one should I go for?

According to GPUBoss, the 965 is better in everything except memory size and clock speed. Are those significant? (I'm relatively new to the computer parts world.)

The most important things in a GPU is VRAM and clock speed. The 950M actually beats the 965M in terms of VRAM, though the 965M has better clock speed. But at a cheaper price, go for the HP. The difference isn't worth it though.
