The Lightning is by far the better card but there is some caveats. The Lightning is made for serious OCing & geared towards the extreme OCing crowd. It also has a binned GPU (the LE edition does not have a binned chip) & top of the line Samsung memory. Now if you are the type who wants to get every last MHz they can out of your GPU even for just everyday gaming the Lightning is the way to go even with the premium price tag it carries. On the other hand if you are just looking to be able to game at higher graphical settings/resolutions & do not plan on OCing your GPU the MSI Gaming 980ti will do just as good as the Lightning. Well the Lightning will have a higher clock speed out of the box & boost much higher thanks to it's cherry picked chip but we are talking a maximum of 10 FPS difference between the 2 at their out of the box speeds.

I'd go for the Lightning myself but I have interests in OCing & benching as well as gaming. Really it depends on your preferences but that is the major differences between the 2. Lightning = ultra high end geared towards extreme OCers, Gaming = high end geared towards gamers. Hope this helps with your decision!
