WD My book 2Tb not detected

Hello All, I bought a Brand new WD My Book 2 Tb external hard drive, when i tried connecting to the Laptop the drive wont show up on My computer or Disk Management, I even went on trying to check the disk on the command prompt but unfortunately I get to see only my Laptops hard drive.
Kindly help me with this regard.
I currently have Windows 8.1 installed on my Laptop

I'm sorry to hear about your connectivity issues with the WD My Book external drive. I'd strongly advise you to try using a different USB cable with it and attempt to connect to a different USB port on your laptop. If you have access to another computer, I'd recommend you to try plugging the external HDD there and see how it will get recognized. Do you hear it spin up when you connect, though?
If these steps don't help you, I'd suggest you check the laptop manufacturer's official website and manually reinstall your USB hub controller drivers from there. (You should be able to see all the available downloads & utilities, once you select your product)

Keep us posted with the troubleshooting.
