So I just got an unexpected shut down today while playing Fallout 4 followed by what I can describe as an electric sound. This alarmed me of course but there was no smell like when my Power supply failed a few months ago and I can't turn it back on anymore. Nothing happens when I push the power button. I only replaced my power supply like two months ago and it's a Silverstone Strider Plus 750W so not a budget one either also no smell as I mentioned. I tried disconnecting RAM sticks one by one to see if one of them had failed and even my video card but still no power. I'm wondering if my Motherboard has finally died or if I got a faulty PSU.

My specs:
AMD FX 8350 ~4.0 Ghz
Silverstone Strider Plus 750W
Corsair H55 liquid cooling kit
16GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GeForce 970 GTX
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

That test isn't conclusive, ok if there is no output it tells you the PSU is not working but even if you have volts and can run a fan it doesn't mean the PSU can deliver the power to run a whole system. It's a handy test but just keep in mind just because you have volts it doesn't mean the PSU is ok.

I don't know much about this PSU but it's tier 3 on Toms list so it wasn't high quality, it was mediocre. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

In all probability from your description it's the PSU, the only real test is to try another one. Problem is if the first one failing caused damage to other components

Actually it's Tier Two(with a Silver rating to boot) and that's the list I checked before purchasing it so it should be fairly reliable. I don't have another PSU to test with, my previous one burnt out and just wouldn't power the pc for more than 15 mins so I threw it out.
Thinking of just taking the whole system down to the PC shop where I got that new power supply and have them take a look at it. Still have the receipt and warranty, maybe I can get that replaced if that's the source of the problem.
