I'm wondering about purchasing a Samsung 950 PRO PCIe SSD, but not sure it's compatible with my setup.

Product links:
* Samsung 950 PRO PCIe :http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/ssd950pro/specifications.html
* P8Z77-V LK - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_LK/overview/

I have doubts on whether my MB will handle:
* running this disk at all
* running it at the max speeds
* booting from it

I already have a PCIe graphics card but there is a second PCIe slot available - not sure if that's important.

Any experience with these kinds of setups?

Solution
Asus does not offer support for NVM Express (NVMe) or Non-Volatile Memory Host Controller Interface on legacy motherboards such as P8Z77-V LK. Asus offers support for Intel-9 series chipset motherboards with a BIOS update - Support NVMe .

There are non-NVMe models. There are three options available for the logical device interfaces and command sets used for interfacing with M.2 storage devices,
1) Legacy SATA
2) PCI Express using AHCI
3) PCI Express using NVMe
