My current rig has an i7 4770 water cooled,gtx980 g1 gaming,16gb corsair ram 750w corsair psu and the msi sli crait mobo. Until now i am using the asus vg248qe monitor(144hz refresh rate 1080p resolution) which i plan to replace. My dilemma is whether to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz monitor and buy a second gtx980 or will i not take the advantage of 144hz? Also i am thinking as a second solution to buy a second vg248qe and just stay with that. I am also considering the 980ti but i got my card last year and i don't want to change it that quickly.
What are your thoughts?
Any help is really appreciated.

GSync helps a lot on the monitor. Weather you hit 200FPS or only 30FPS the monitor will adapt and stay flicker free. I would keep the 980 video card since it's half decent. Wait for the next gen of GPUs to release since they will be super awesome compared to what's out now.

If you want a monitor I'd consider a 27" 144Hz 1440p with GSync. That'll be super smooth regardless of if you hit 144FPS or not.

Is there a reason you want to change your current 144HZ 1080p? It seems like you are considering the larger 1440p, or to get a second 1080p and do Nvidia surround gaming on 2 monitors. Well if that's the case surround and eyefinity work best with 3 monitors so I'd eliminate that option. And if upgrading to 1440P I'd definitely...
