This question doesn't make any sense: there's nothing on a motherboard to encrypt. Files, folders or entire drives can be encrypted, but those are located on a HDD or SDD or other storage device, not a motherboard. That can be done in software or with a HDD/SSD that supports drive encryption.
As to the need to encrypt, it's up to you. Encrypting data means someone else can't read it without the decryption key. If you forget the password for some encrypted file or folder or drive, you may not be able to open it yourself again. This privacy can come at some performance cost also.
