The dvd/cd drive on my hp 250 windows 8.1 os laptop only sends back "Please insert disk" every time I insert a dvd or cd into the drive.

It could do this with damaged disks, but if it's doing it on all cd's, you may have a dirty lens on the laser or a faulty drive, you can carefully clean it with a swab and methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol. Laptop lasers pop out with the draw and are susceptible to fingers/dirt
