GTX660 or R7 360? Does Direct x12 compatibility matter a lot in newer games?

Hello everyone! Due to low budget, I am now confused whether I should take R7 360 (full directx 12 compatible) or GTX 660 OC (directx 11.2) for playing newer games like Quantum Break even in low settings. Which one would you suggest? Thank you

I may get a GTX 960/970 but it will take a while - maybe at the end of this year. So for the time being, I want to take one card to play the current games well. I cannot change my CPU as of now but maybe I will consider changing it once I get that GTX 960/970 hopefully.

I have been able to run all games upto now except Arkham Knight because of poor buggy FPS. I am leaning towards GTX660.

My Current PC Configuration is:
Motherboard: Gigabyte H61MA-D2V
Processor: Core i5 2400 3.1GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (Dual-Channel)
GPU: Gigabyte HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
PSU: Corsair VS 450
Monitor: Samsung 18.5" (1366x768)

You cpu is not likely to be a big issue with a stronger graphics card; I think you are ok there.

DX12 is a non issue today. You need both windows 10 and a game that has been coded to support DX-12. There are very few available today.
I would ignore that as a selection criteria.

A GTX660 will be a couple of tiers stronger than a R7-360.
Be careful that the specific GTX660 OC does not require more than a single 6 pin power connector. Otherwise, your 450w psu may not be enough.
Either will be a nice graphics upgrade.

You might look at a GTX950 which will be a tad stronger and will still run on your psu.

right now dx 12 is almost non existant in games so matters little. in a couple years as they get better at using it, games will take advantage of dx 12 more and more. both of those gpu's are so low end that they won't be usable in 2 years anyway. they are a short term answer and will need to be replaced soon enough. grab either one now and when dx 12 shows up more, upgrade to a newer dx 12 card that will work for those newer games whan that time comes.

Thanks a lot everyone! Here's an update!

Alright, I was looking into the second-hand market but with warranty and I just heard that the GTX 660 is sold since it was a good offer. Now, they have a new GTX 750 Ti or a few months used R7 360. Will 750 Ti make a good difference for gaming this year? I was so interested in GTX 660 but since its sold, I wanna take 750 Ti but R7 360 is within my budget yet I wanna take sth better than it cause it's too low end. Thank you

GTX750ti is excellent, and is still two tiers stronger than a R7-360.
It is about as strong as the GTX660, just one tier lower.

Hey, thanks. Looks like I'm too late to grab that GTX 660 since that's sold. Now, they have a new GTX 750 Ti or a few months old R7 360 for me to take. Both are somewhat closer in budget but I may have to give more for that 750 Ti.

Oh, okay! Thanks! I will try to take it. Only thing is I may have to give more but I am leaning towards it. Btw, will it be able to run the newer games in medium settings? Thanks

Yeah, my resolution is pretty low as 768p so it wont be a problem
