Hi all, i really hope someone is able to help me.

Firstly, i hope this posted in the right category, i couldnt find one specific to DVRs/network cams etc.

Secondly, i have read through other related posts on here but my issue i feel is slightly different to others ive seen.

My DVR is in an outbuilding. This is connected by CAT5 to a netgear router. This netgear router is connected by a long length of CAT5 to my main router which provides me with my internet connection. I used to be able to connect tomy cams outsideof my network until my virgin supehub wasreplacedwith a superhub 2 and now i can no longer connect despite adding the relevant port forwarding rules.

My DVR is set to LAN IP 192.168.0.100.

I can access my cameras via a purpose built phone or pc app by typing in 192.168.0.100:6802 and my username / password combo whilst connected to my own network.

I should be able to accessthe cams externally by entering myipaddress:6802 via the apps but this doesnt work anymore.

i should also in theory be able to connect to them by entering myexternalip:8080 but this doesnt work either.

Can somebody in laymans terms please explain step by step what i need to do to get this back up and running externally again.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

Are you testing with the external address while you are connected to the internal network or are you testing from a truly external location.

Since you say it worked before then we can assume everything inside your house is the same. This leave the new router as the most likely issue.

If it does not work from a network that is actually external it has to be the port forwarding is messed up. It could be some firewall rules also.

Now if you are testing from the inside using the external address then the new router may not support this function. This is many times called hairpin routing but is not supported by many devices. There is little you can do if the device does not have the support for this function.

It is set as such and as stated previously, worked perfectly before I swapped out my main router from a superhub 1 to a superhub 2.

double check your public IP, it usually changes when you swap routers.

Apologies I selected gbb0330 as the best answer when it's not and can't seem to undo it. That is most definitely not my issue. I check the IP each time I test.

My issue is more likely to do with bill001g's suggestion although I'd need a step by step guide to over come it (port forwarding).

I've been checking the external iP from within my own network. If my router doesn't support this (harpin) would that also affect it working using my external iP outside of my network also?

Thanks for the support from everyone so far.

i unselected best answer.
hairpin feature affects results only when testing from inside.
if you tested it from outside (friends house, coffee shop) and it still does not work, then its not hairpin.
