Xbox One Wireless Adapter Connected to Controller, Controller Not Recognized

I recently bought an Xbox One wireless adapter for my working Xbox One controller. I've used this controller before with a usb wire connection just fine, but I want to be able to use it wirelessly. After fiddling around with the adapter's windows 7 drivers I finally got it recognized in the device manager as "Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows". I even successfully connected the controller to it, but even though both the controller and adapter light indicators say that they're paired, the Xbox controller device does not appear in the device manager (when wired, it appears as "HID-compliant game controller") and no game recognizes my input from the controller. I'm really at my wits' end with this, and was hoping someone might be able to, at the very least, diagnose my issue so I can fix it.

I can't find a solution for this problem either. I use Windows 7 Ultimate, Xbox One controller works wired, is recognized by wireless dongle in Windows but no games recognize the controller. Does anyone have any solutions?

I already gave you the ONLY solution. UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10

basroil, I do not believe that you offered the ONLY solution. According to <https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xbox-one-wireless-controller-differences-on-windows-operating-systems>, the X-Box One controller can be connected via wired/wireless with Windows 7.

My PC games recognize it with USB cord, but not when wireless (even when Windows does).

I have been plagued by this for awhile, but alas my friend, i found a solution!

from reddit

"Thanks all. What an ordeal. So glad I found this thread. This worked for me but..

Note: as of 7/12/18, you may also need to first uninstall KB4338818. Then you will see and can uninstall KB4284842, and finally KB4284826. So until Microsoft fixes this, and/or depending on when you uncover this message thread, there may be other updates you will need to uninstall first. Basically, you're uninstalling the monthly roll-ups and/or monthly preview roll-ups."

then download the xinput driver from this video and extract it to a folder.

Then, open up Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices and look for "HID Compliant controller" (It might also be "HID compliant game controller" I forget the exact name). Right click the device, click on "Update driver software" > Browse >Let me Pick >Have disk, browse to and select the folder that you extracted the download to and hit OK. You should see "XINPUT Compatible HID device" select that and install it. It worked immediately and was recognized as a controller in steam and uplay again!

Others have also commented that you'll need to have permissions disabled? I didn't run into the issue sadly :( so I can't comment on it
