New gen Nvidia 2016

I am looking at buying a 900 series card from Nvidia, i can get a 970/980 which fits in my budget.

With the new generation of cards around the corner form Nvidia.

Going off experience from the release of new gen cards in the past, what would an estimate of the price of these cards?

and also how much would the 900 series cards drop in price once the new cards are launched.

No idea on the new price, as for the price drop, you need to strike while the iron is hot, they drop and sell out quickly as they stop production well before they stop selling them, but generally its only around 20% depending on the card.

Like with the rest of us, your just going to have to see how things play out.
I would expect the 900 series of cards to drop in price though, But I would not think by much maybe £40 or $40 depending on the exact model range of the 900 series of Nvidia cards.

It just a waiting game on when Pascal is launched.

don't think it going to drop much, they already said they stop making 900 series. so supply will be less.
