I am planing to swap all of my components from my prebuilt computers motherboard and case to a new motherboard and case ( the prebuilt case was not providing good ventilation and the new motherboard was because the new case has a window and the OEM board is ugly). Will there be complications from moving all parts including my boot drives over to another motherboard. I saw in another post that there may be complications from the prebuilt computers software, is that true? I just want to make sure I don't lose my data and my copy of windows along with it. Also if you see any other complications arising please let me know.

My components are as follows: CPU: i7 4790, GPU: GTX 780ti, MB: ASUS OEM micro ATX (model unknown), RAM: 8gb, HDD: WD Blue 1tb
The new motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H.
Thanks guys.

well first off if it s OEM PC then it had a OEM version of windows installed with 1) Will deactivate once it is booted off the non OEM PC. 2) Because it is a OEM windows Microsoft will NOT reactivate the license on a NON OEM Motherboard.

Now on the other part with it starting up, if it is a similar chipset/SATA controller it may boot up. Will it be stable? Maybe yes maybe no, but again you would have to buy a new Windows License for it.

what kid of PC was it exactly? Is it a OEM like HP, Dell Etc? or some other prebuilt? even then a lot of prebuilds sold though PC sells are usually OEM licensing as they can't sell PC's with Retail licensing or something like that form what I read.

Ah ok it is a ASUS OEM. Yea gonna have to get a new license. This place here has some keys for cheap.

you have to download the install media for what ever version of windows you install though. For windows 8/10 just search for media creation tool
