Hard Drive Too Slow

Hello, I've had my rig for a bit over a year, and it's been working fairly well. I'm using a Seagate Barracuda 2tb drive. In the last two or more weeks though my hard drive has been super slow. I didn't notice it as much while I was playing Payday 2, but as soon as I started playing bf4 it was unplayable, and I mean that there was a good three seconds of frozen frames. Task Manager says my hard drive is a 100% utilization, and I have notice launching any other applications is slow as well. My only theory is that a Windows update may have screwed something up, but I doubt it. Currently, I have re-optimized the drive, but I don't know what else to do. Does anybody have a solution or theory? Thanks

Solution
Turns out it was a RAM leak (the second one actually) I just uninstalled the Killer network drivers, and reinstalled them, and it's working fine again. I don't, however, know how this keeps on happening.
Hey there, Devouringbowl57!

I'd second what @techgeek mentioned and advise you to test the HDD's health and SMART status using its brand-specific manufacturer's diagnostic tool. Make sure you run the short and the long tests and take a look at the SMART attributes. Another thing you should try is swapping the SATA cable connecting the HDD in your rig and even try plugging it to a different SATA port on the mobo. Hopefully, it's just a inefficient power connection and not a failing drive.

Keep us posted with the results & troubleshooting.
Good luck! :)

Killer Networks, worst drivers ever. It is a complete mystery to me why anyone thought it was a good idea to mess so extensively with something that is a fairly simple driver. Give me a solid Intel ethernet controller any day.

Killers claims of lower pings through driver QoS settings are sketchy at best. Even if they do work as advertised, the NIC is rarely the device with the public IP which means if the router between the Killer NIC and the internet isn't set up for QoS traffic prioritization, then it doesn't matter what the Killer driver is doing.
