Stuck at desktop screen when I install new GPU.

Hey, earlier this year I bought a Asus Geforce GTX 750ti for my computer, which is the HP h8 1250a model. Anyway, I installed it and got stuck at the "Press Esc to enter Start Up" menu. I uninstalled my previous GPU's drivers, as is standard. I also asked the HP support forums, and they said their should be no problems with the compatibility. Anyway, I thought I'd try here after several months of no luck.

Here's a link to my computer model, for anyone interested: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03132174

Note: The only thing I've changed, is that I upgraded my power supply to one with 500w. The problem also isn't with power, as the GPU is clearly 'on', as the fans run fine.

Solution

It might be, but honestly, the GPU should just work. As far as we have both researched, there is no known compatibility issue between your motherboard and GPU. The most likely option is that there is some fault either with the way the GPU is seated or with the GPU itself. Since you've already reinstalled it probably several times with the same results, the most likely source of your issue is a faulty GPU.
I don't understand what you mean by "the blue desktop screen." Does your computer show any bios or booting messages when you turn it on?
What have you don't to troubleshoot? Have you checked for any loose connections? Is your screen plugged into your GPU? Do things work normally when you remove the GPU and plug your screen back into the motherboard connector?

By the blue desktop screen, I mean the "Press Esc to enter Start Up Menu" screen. Sorry, calling it the blue desktop screen probably doesn't help. For troubleshooting, I've updating my bios, reset my bios and even reformatted in the past. There are no loose connections. The monitor is plugged into the GPU, and my motherboard doesn't have a slot for my monitor's cable, but it works fine if I remove the new GPU and replace it with the old one. Also, if I press Escape at the menu, it just goes to a black screen. No sound, no nothing.

Apologies, I should have had this all in my initial post.

Your system is failing well before it loads any GPU drivers. I would say that perhaps you knocked a drive cable or power cable loose when installing the new GPU, but if you've successfully reverted to your old GPU, that's unlikely. HP bioses do have a reputation for not playing nicely with hardware. I would try using different bios versions.

Have you ever tried the GPU in a different machine to confirm that it isn't actually defective? That's what I would check next.

I'll try various version of the bios, and unfortunately I don't have another machine to test it on.

I'll post again once I've tried out a few different bios versions.

Thank you for the replies, btw.

No luck with different bios versions. I also tried resetting my CMOS jumper, as suggested by another thread I read, but had no luck. I've read that changing my bios to legacy mode might work. Do you think that'd be worth a go?

No luck with legacy mode either. Like you said, it must be a bad card, as I've seemingly tried everything. Thanks for your time, and helping me clear this up, I'll be sending the card back to get replaced.
