My main disk Active time randomly jumps to 100% and stays that way for a while, and by jump I mean it jumps from almost nothing to 100.
While this happens, hardly any programs work, they all become "is not responding".
It might be a problem in my system, I have had several problems with start menu not working and such with win 10. I now got this error at shut down if it has anything to do with this (+other informative images):

I have performed a full virus scan (Malware bytes)
The problem doesn't seem to link to anything and has lasted for about a month now.
The HDD is about 5 years old.
Windows 10 Pro 10.0.10586 Build 10586

Hey there, 010.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your HDD.

Do you remember doing anything in particular before the issues started to occur? Anything like installing new software, or updating old software/the OS, etc? Good job on testing the drive for errors, but for future reference - whenever there's a possible problem with the hard drive the first action should always be to backup your important data, just to be on the safe side. This is necessary as you don't know if the drive is damaged or not and how long it will last if it is. It's also necessary because if the HDD is has physical issues, scans and tests might further damage it.

I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different SATA port and...

I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different SATA port and different cables to see if the issue still persists. If that doesn't prove useful, you could try disabling some of Windows' services, which sometimes might cause such issues. I'm talking about Superfetch, Prefetch, BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) and Windows Search. If that doesn't help as well, try updating your Windows, to see if that fixes things up.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Thank you for answering Boogieman!

I didnt know scans can damage disks. Thanks for the warn
I have backed up

Do I remember any programs or updates downloaded that could cause this? No
Did changing disk SATA ports and cables help? No
Did disabling windows processes help? Possibly

I disabled Superfetch and Prefetch in regex. At startup the disk is still active 100% for about 3 minutes (System writes 10 MB/s) but that I guess is normal. The problem haven't occurred apart from startup (I only have highly trusted low impact startup programs) in 4 hours usage of the drive in all sorts of ways.

I will edit the post once I'm sure about the results. Thank you Boogieman.
