adding 8gb RAM to 2x4gb RAM

So when I built my PC I put in 2 4gb RAM sticks to give me a total of 8gb of RAM. It's worked ok for nearly a year now but I thought it was time for an upgrade, so I ordered another 8gb. However I accidently ordered a single stick 8gb RAM instead of another 2x4. I wanted to check on here first before I put it in my PC to check if it will work, in case I have to return it.

So basically, can I put in a single stick 8gb RAM with 2x4gb RAM already in there, and if so, is there any particular way I should put it in?

Thanks.

Solution
No guarantees they will play, but would try it. Start with the 8GB stick in slot 1 and the 4s in slots 3-4 (from CPU), this puts 8 GB in each channel to maintain dual channel mode. If any problems give us a shout and we can try timing/voltage adjustments

Thanks for the reply. I'll try it a bit later, I'll write what happens on this thread.

EDIT: I don't know if I put it in the slots you said, I just bunged it in (I was replacing the CPU fan too) and now it works fine.
