New Build Cannot Install Any OS...

I haven't found anything else relevant in the forum, and I'm stumped.

I'm building a new computer for a friend - only the second time I've done it, so I'm not super-savvy. It starts up no problem, I can access the BIOS menu. It recognizes the Windows disk when it's in the drive and looks like it should when it's beginning the installation procedure...but before I get to the actual installation screen, where I can choose the language and format the hard drive and all that, I get the blue screen of death. I'd post the error code, but there are several - it's a different one each time. Occasionally, it will just freeze instead of going to blue.

I've tried two different hard drives, two different CD/DVD drives, and two different OSs (Windows 7 and Windows 8...I've even tried both 64 and 32 bit versions), and no combination of these will work - it's the same result each time. Not sure what to try next.

Thank you for responding. If it was bad RAM, wouldn't that prevent it from even reaching the BIOS screen?

Here are a couple of the different errors I get:
1) boot error 0xc0000001
2) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
3) freezes at the Windows logo screen
4) it sometimes dumps me at the EDI Shell page, directly or after restarting itself
