Solution
Were talking about a power supply that was decent when it was new but is likely 10 years old now. It's ability to deliver rated power in a clean efficient manner has to be questioned as parts like capacitors age and fail after years of service. IMO, you'd be better off replacing it to properly protect all your new parts. The quality of components in todays models is very good as most manufacturers have learned hard lessons over time. A high quality model from Seasonic, XFX or EVGA such as the EVGA 550 GS would provide plenty of clean power and all the protections your new system needs.

Well my friend was going to give it to me for free so just wanted to know. Most of the parts I have are used or were given to me.
